Find your own study technique
There is no single study technique that works for everyone. Try things out and find the method that suits the way you learn.
One of John Erik’s pieces of advice is that he wishes he had learned more about study technique earlier. The main point: there is no single right answer – different methods work for different people.
Some things to try
- Visual methods and memory palaces – tie material to images and places (see the separate resource on memory palaces).
- Active recall – test yourself instead of simply reading it again.
- Spaced repetition – repeat at growing intervals over time.
- Explain it to someone else – saying a subject out loud reveals what you actually know.
The point
Try different techniques on a specific subject, and notice what genuinely makes you remember and understand better. That way you build a toolkit you can use for the rest of your studies.
