Editorial principles
How we work
Spørretimen wants to make complicated subjects easier to understand. This page explains how the content is made, and what you can expect from it.
Four things we keep apart
A lot of confusion comes from mixing these up, so we try to keep them visibly separate:
- Fact. Something that can be checked against a source.
- What a guest says. The guest's own account and experience. We write “in the episode he says that …”, not “this is what happened”. The guests speak for themselves, not for Spørretimen.
- Analysis. Our reading of what something means.
- Opinion. What we think. Marked as such.
Sources
Where content rests on research, statistics, figures or professional knowledge, we try to name the source. We prefer the original publication, public authorities and established professional sources over second-hand accounts.
Where research is disputed or has failed to replicate, we say so in the episode rather than presenting the most striking version of a finding.
Use of AI
AI is used as a tool when the texts are written – for structure, for phrasing, and for finding what a subject ought to cover. It is not used to decide what is true. Sources are checked against the source itself, and everything is read through before it is published.
Errors can still occur, and a note about this stands on the content itself rather than only here. If you find something that is wrong, the address for corrections is on every page.
Books and other people's work
Books are covered through our own explanations, analysis and commentary: what the book argues, what is worth taking from it, what is disputed, and who it might suit. We use our own words and our own examples.
We do not reproduce books chapter by chapter, and the content is not a substitute for reading the original. Quotations are kept short and attributed. Rights to books and other third-party material belong to the respective rights holders.
Images
We use images we have made ourselves, images supplied or approved by the people in them, and licensed images. Where a credit is required, it is shown with the image. We do not publish images whose origin we have not established.
Commercial content
Spørretimen has no sponsors or paid partnerships today. Should that change, commercial content will be labelled clearly and visibly, before or alongside the content itself – not hidden in a footer.
An ordinary editorial mention of a book, a tool or a service is not advertising, and is not labelled as such. If there is no agreement, we do not claim there is one.
Transcripts
Episode transcripts are published so the content can be read and searched. Where a transcript is automatically generated and not checked, the page says so. Language is tidied for readability, but not in a way that changes what a guest meant.
Health, money and law
Episodes about health, personal finance or legal questions are general information, not individual advice. Where that matters, the page says so. For your own situation you should speak to a qualified professional.
Errors
We try to get things right, but we do not promise that everything is correct. Errors happen, and we would rather hear about them than not. Write to post@sporretimen.no, and tell us which page it concerns.
If you are named or discussed in an episode and think something is wrong or unreasonable, get in touch. You can ask for a correction or a right of reply – see press ethics and the content.
Who is responsible
Spørretimen is a personal project run by Jan Sindre Heltne. Questions about the content can be sent to post@sporretimen.no.
